QReader 2.0 Copyright 1991-1992 Yandell Computer Services
QReader version 1.0 to version 2.0 upgrade information: If you have
not previously installed QReader, disregard the entire contents of
this (UPGRADE.DOC) file.
Upgrading to the version 2.0 is very easy and is handled almost
entirely automatically by QRSETUP.EXE.
PRINT THIS FILE and use it as a check list. It is barely two printed
pages in length.
(1) Back up your current QReader 1.0 configuration, especially all of
the *.CNF files.
(2) Extract the contents of QREAD20.ZIP into your QReader directory.
Do not over-write any of the SELECT.* or *.CNF files. Use your own
judgment before over-writing files such as MENU, etc., if you have
customized these text files.
(3) Run QRSETUP /UPGRADE - the /UPGRADE switch places QRSETUP into a
special mode for converting your *.CNF files for version 2.0 use.
(4) Answer the following question appropriately:
* All .CNF files should be backed up before updating. Continue (Y/N)?
If you answer no, QRSETUP will end, giving you the opportunity to do
what should have been done in step #1 !!!
(5) Answer the following question appropriately:
* SWAP QReader when shelling? (Y/N)
This is a new toggle in each .CNF file. It will only be asked once
during the upgrade. The answer you give will be placed in ALL *.CNF
files. You may change this later in each .CNF file if needed. This
replaces the version 1.0 method of following the SET PCB= environment
variable on PCBoard systems.
(7) Answer the following question:
* Select the BBS software QReader is running with?
(1) PCBoard 14.5x
(2) Wildcat 3.0x
(3) Other using generic DOOR.SYS
This is a new setting in each .CNF file. It will only be asked once
during the upgrade. The answer you give will be placed in ALL *.CNF
files. You may change this later in each .CNF file if needed. There is
no version 1.0 equivalent to this setting, as QReader 1.0 only worked
with PCBoard software.
* After answering the last question above, QRSETUP will update all of
the .CNF files it finds in the current location. SELECT.CNF will be
handled appropriately as well, with only the new "BBS Type" parameter
being added to it.
IMPORTANT! QRSETUP will use the FIRST .CNF file it sees in the current
directory to create QRFSHELP, which is a new file which contains the
Full-screen window help text. This text was formerly contained in each
configuration (.CNF) file. This text is now a separate file, and there
is an additional selection on the main QRSETUP screen for editing
QRFSHELP files. QReader will use language extensions on these files,
if desired (PCBoard mode only).

---------------------------------------------------------------
(8) You will need to reflect the new (Z)ippy command in the MENU and
HELP files, and also remove references to the (O)perator page function
in these files. If you are using the default MENU and HELP files from
QReader version 2.0, simply use the files contained in QREAD20.ZIP.
You should also delete any BYE (BYEG) files, as they are no longer
used in QReader 2.0.
(9) Using the new built-in editor for text *.DAT data files in
QRSETUP, you may wish to provide some sort of brief description which
will be displayed when doing a Zippy search (see QREADER.DOC for more
information).
(10) It is VERY important to read FEATURES.NEW and appropriate
sections of QREADER.DOC so that all of the new features are correctly
understood and utilized.
Your version 1.0 to version 2.0 upgrade "bare bones" upgrade is
complete. Please refer to QREADER.DOC and FEATURES.NEW for additional
information and instructions which may be used for "fine tuning" your
upgrade.
* QReader 2.0 BETA TESTERS ONLY: Qreader 2.0 was in a "semi-public"
(for registered Sysops only) BETA test cycle for three months prior to
release. Many Sysops downloaded BETA test code at different stages of
testing, some staying current, some not. It is impossible to document
the exact steps to take for upgrading to this final release depending
on, literally, which "day" each QREADER.EXE BETA test version was
written. However, the following guidelines should assist Sysops who
participated in the BETA test cycle and did not keep up to date with
the BETA releases. If your QREADER.EXE (DOS directory) date is BEFORE
12-03-91, follow the ten upgrade steps above as normal. If the last
BETA TEST QREADER.EXE you have is 12-03-91 or later, do NOT do the
UPGRADE as described above. Edit each *.CNF file VERY carefully. You
must examine each parameter carefully, especially the "BBS type" and
make sure all parameters are properly configured. If you find that you
need assistance, you will need to provide the DOS directory date of
the QREADER.EXE that you last obtained during the BETA test cycle.
